Atmel has released AVR Xmega 8/16bit microcontrollers with only 32 pins.

Called the E-Series, they come in 4x4mm QFN packaging.

“These devices offer advanced features not found in any other AVR Xmega devices, including 16 channels of 12bit ADC running at 300ksample/s, a 12bit DAC, and the ‘XCL’ module which enables developers to create custom glue logic for their system,” said distributor Mouser, which is stocking the devices. “In addition, the E microcontrollers are the most power efficient of all Xmega devices.”

Applications are expected in ballast and board controls, dc-dc converters, LED drives, toys and watches.
