Flood damage prompts Sanyo to shut production line Electronics News

SANYO Semiconductor has thrown in the towel on its factory in Ayutthaya in Thailand, deeming the factory too damaged by the recent floods to be repaired.

Instead, Sanyo will shift its production line to other factories within Thailand.

The affected factory, located at the Rojana Industrial Park, was the operations unit of ON Semiconductor. This decision to close the facility is expected to cause ripples throughout the global semiconductor supply chain.

According to the company, the sustained flooding on the site damaged its buildings and machines to such a degree that rehabilitation would not make economic sense.
