Fab tool billings, bookings plummeted in Q3

SAN FRANCISCO—Worldwide semiconductor manufacturing equipment bookings totaled $7.6 billion in the third quarter, down 38 percent from the second quarter and down 29 percent from the third quarter of 2010, according to the fab tool vendor trade group SEMI.

Total fab tool billings were $10.6 billion in the third quarter, down 11 percent compared to the second quarter and down 5 percent compared to the third quarter of 2010, SEMI said.

The data for the bookings and billing statistics is gathered jointly by SEMI and the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan from more than 100 global equipment companies that provide data on a monthly basis, SEMI said.
