Avago drops patent suit against Cypress

SAN FRANCISCO—Analog chip vendor Avago Technologies Inc. has dropped a patent infringement lawsuit filed against Cypress Semiconductor Corp. earlier this year, Cypress said Monday (Dec. 12).

The suit, filed in January in U.S. District Court in Delaware, alleged that Cypress's OvationONS optical navigation technology infringes upon Avago's intellectual property. The OvationONS technology enables finger navigation in handheld devices.

Cypress (San Jose, Calif.) said it paid no damages and admitted to no infringement in the case. The company claims it uses its own patented OptiCheck technology, which the company has invested tens of millions of dollars to develop, in the OvationONS products. OptiCheck is a proprietary, speckle-based two-dimensional comb array technology, according to Cypress.

"We're pleased to put this matter to rest," said T.J. Rodgers, president and CEO of Cypress, in a statement.
